STAVE ONE
Jacob Marley, the partner of Ebenezer Scrooge in their business, was dead. Scrooge acted like nothing happened about the death of his friend and his partner. One Christmas Eve, Scrooge's nephew came to his house to wish him a Merry Christmas but Scrooge calls Christmas a humbug. He doesn't believe in Christmas being merry at all. Later that night, the spirit of Marley appeared before him and warned him about his attitude and that he was being punished because of his attitude and he doesn't want that Scrooge will experience the same fate as him. He also warned him that three spirits will haunt him every night at 12 midnight to save him from experiencing the same fate as his friend, Marley.
The characters highlighted in this chapter are Ebenezer Scrooge and his friend Jacob Marley. In this chapter, Ebenezer showed his bad attitude. He is mean to his employees and family, he isn't a nice man at all. Also, he doesn't understand Christmas at all. He calls it a humbug. He doesn't find it merry and happy but a burden. The other character is Jacob Marley, he has the same attitude as Scrooge but when he was dead, he was punished and he goes to warn his friend Scrooge to change his fate and attitude by welcoming the three spirits that will haunt him and change his fate for the better.
STAVE TWO
The first spirit came to Scrooge's house at exactly the same hour when Marley came to Scrooge. The spirit was The Ghost of Christmas Past, Scrooge's past. They came back to the days when Scrooge was still a child. Scrooge saw all of his past, all that happened in his past during Christmas, his hometown and the people around him that time. Then, Scrooge cannot take it anymore and commanded the spirit to take him back and he sank into a heavy sleep.
The first spirit that came to Scrooge showed him his Christmas past which helped Scrooge realized all the wrong things he did. He brought Scrooge into his hometown. There, Scrooge saw his school, his seld being a young boy reading a book, dear old honest Ali Baba, the parrot and all the other people in his hometown which he saw and remembered again and all his memories as a child came back to him.
