This is where I can brag about MYSELF,
how great I am,
that I am something people can
and that I have many suitors. NOT!
yeah, like real, no one is born perfect
by the way, ESTHER's the NAME.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL
POINT OF VIEW:
I think that the point of view of the story is Third Person Omniscient. It is because the narrator is not part of the story and he knew the thoughts and actions of the character. At the first part of the story, I thought that the point of view was First Person Central because the pronoun I was used . But, when I reviewed the story and read it again, I realized that the narrator is not part of the story and he just used the pronoun I to make humorous remarks. There are some proofs in the story that the point of view is Third Person Omniscient. Some of these are "Speakers and listeners strolled away, and mixed with other groups. Scrooge knew the men, and looked towards the Spirit for an explanation. The Phantom glided on into a street. Its finger pointed to two persons meeting. Scrooge listened again, thinking that the explanation might lie here. He knew these men, also, perfectly. They were men of business: very wealthy, and of great importance." in Chapter 4. Another one is "He had never dreamed that any walk -- that anything -- could give him so much happiness." in Chapter 5. Here, the narrator knew the feelings of Scrooge, the lead character. I really like the idea of Charles Dickens, he gave twists in the point of view in the story. At first, I really thought he used First Person Central but it turned out that it was Third Person Omniscient. Charles Dickens really is a great author.CONFLICT:
A Christmas Carol contains many conflicts. We can see the struggle between the classes, as the Cratchit family struggle to survive on the salary given by Scrooge. We can also see the struggle between good and evil, as Scrooge realized that he will suffer if he will not change his ways for the good. Lastly, we can see the conflict between man and society. But with these conflicts, the main conflict is Man v.s. Himself because Scrooge faced many difficulties just to change himself to become a better person. He has gone through many difficulties, he felt sadness and happiness through all of his experiences with the Spirits that visited him. Especially in chapter 3, when he met the Ghost of Christmas Present, he felt guilt that time and wished not to see anymore how he made other people suffer. The main conflict of the story really helped improve and develop the happenings in the story. I think that Dickens did a good job in putting in many conflicts but the main conflict is still evident. :]
RESOLUTION:
The resolution for the conflict in the story is the introduction of the Spirits to Ebenezer Scrooge. The visits of the Spirits helped Scrooge change his heart, his way of life and his relationship with other people. Even if the Spirits didn't tell Scrooge why he was in wrong, but they succeeded in letting Scrooge see it for himself. After the Spirits showed Scrooge the people who hated him and the people whom Scrooge hurt, Scrooge suddenly changed his heart for him not to share fate with his friend and business partner, Marley.
SYMBOLISM:
There were many symbols present in the story A Christmas Carol. First, we will look at Stave 1 where Marley is weighed down by a massive chain, and tells Scrooge he has an even longer chain. This chain, made up of cash-boxes, padlocks , purses and business documents, represents Scrooge's achievement in life - earning money which weighs down his spirit. Another one is in Stave 2, where the Ghost of Christmas Present compares the people to insects and the wealthy Scrooge is ridiculed for looking down on these insects who have less to live on. This is line that can prove this: "Oh God! to hear the insect on the leaf pronouncing on the too much life among his hungry brothers in the dust!". Lastly, at the end of Stave 3, Scrooge sees under the robe of the Ghost of Christmas Present, two children whose names are: Ignorance and Want. Here, we can see that a lack of education, as well as, extreme poverty is a hindrance for anyone to have a good life. Of the two, the Ghost tells Scrooge to be beware of the boy most of all, who is Ignorance, because ignorance allows poverty to continue. There were still many symbols that can be found in the story, but these symbols are the most important of all. Symbols are really of a great help to the development and the creativeness of the story. :)
REACTION:
The novel was really good. It is not just the typical Christmas stories that we always read. I was quite surprised that it was a haunted Christmas story and it really captured my attention on reading and finishing this book by Dickens. Charles Dickens really did a good job and I really like his style in writing a novel. In the first chapter, Marley's Ghost introduces us to Scrooge and his moral failings while Stave 5 is a very brief account of how Scrooge reforms. I really liked the story and even learned a lesson from it. It is an interesting and good story with many lessons to learn from it. Like, don't be selfish and always share your blessings for you will regret it later if you don't do it. Also, always be nice to people so that the good you give to them, they will return it back to you. It's really good, no bad comments or reactions for it. I like it. NICE JOB DICKENS! :D
