This is where I can brag about MYSELF,
how great I am,
that I am something people can
and that I have many suitors. NOT!
yeah, like real, no one is born perfect
by the way, ESTHER's the NAME.

I will compare and contrast Len Benetto and Charles "Chick" Benetto, characters from the book For One More Day.
COMPARISON:
Both Len and Chick Benetto love playing baseball and they are really determined on what they want to achieve. Chick really idolizes his father and so he always sticks with him. Len, as well as, Chick displays a bad attitude towards Posey. They both took the love of Posey for them for granted. Len was divorced to his wife, Posey, similarly Chick was also divorced to his wife, Catherine.
CONTRAST:
As I said earlier, Len and Chick were divorced to their wives but the reasons were different. Len was divorced because he had another woman, so Posey divorced him. But, Chick was divorced because Catherine could not stand his wrecked life, especially his addiction to alcohol. When Len left Posey, Chick and Roberta, from that day on, Chick was a mama's boy. So, when Posey died, Chick learned to love her mother unlike Len.

ANALYSIS
Irony and Paradox. What are the meanings of these words? Well, as we all know, Irony is the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning and there are three kinds of irony that we discussed: verbal, situational or dramatic irony. While Paradox is a statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth.
Now, I will make an analysis on the irony and paradox (if there is an example of a paradox) of the book For One More Day by Mitch Albom. First of all, this book is a story of a mother and a son, and a relationship that covers a lifetime and beyond. It explores the question: “What would you do if you could spend one more day with a lost loved one? “. This book has a lot of ironies and so I will discuss them here.
In the story, the main character, Charles “Chick” Benetto wanted to commit suicide because of his problems and when he got the chance to do it by drinking and driving fast, and luckily he survived, he thought to himself “I was just happy to be alive.” What Charles thought is a form of a verbal irony. He really didn’t mean that he felt happy that he was alive since he wanted to end his life and commit suicide. What he really felt was disappointment since he wanted to end his life because he cannot take anymore all his problems at that moment and that was his only chance to commit suicide. Another verbal irony present in the story is that when Charles was still six years old and his school was having a Halloween Parade and so they need to wear a scary costume. His mom wanted him to be a mummy so she wrapped him with tissue paper and said “Ooooh, you’re very scary!”. I think this is a verbal irony because his mother wasn’t really scared of Charles’ looks. She just said that to satisfy Charles. There’s this conflict between the relationship of Charles’ mother and father. Charles’ father was a soldier back then when he was still courting Charles’ mother through letters. When Charles’ father was stationed in Italy, he met a poor girl who gave him strength and security and fell in love with her. But, when the war ended, he went back to Posey, Charles’ mother, and proposed. When the years went by, Charles’ father found the Italian woman again and lived with her. This, Charles’ mother never knew because she always thought that her husband always leave for work. So, this is, I think, a dramatic irony. Charles’ mother never knew of this, she was busy taking of their children while her husband is “off to work” but the truth is seeing with another woman. My last example for irony in this story is that it was the birthday of Charles’ mother, but later that day she had a heart attack and died. This is an example of a situational irony because it shows unfairness. It was her day and her only time to get to see all of her family members and eat with them but she died during that day.
